its so sad.
I think that people often misunderstand the power of simchas torah, focusing on the dancing / merry-making without feeling the tremendous inspirational nature of the day. I didnt always realize this - but the nusach and tunes of the simchas torah davening are all from the yamim noraim - but without the fear and heavy burdens of rosh hashanah and yom kippur, because now, we reach that same high level through simcha, not just through yirah. Its such an inspiring way to end the whole yom tov season, but I always feel so sad at the last hakafah, as we finish off, singing, declaring, tamim bimaasav aneinu biyom karenu - after the whole yom tov season, we can experience bisimcha, and understand with joy for a split second, that G-d is tamim bimaasav. What else can we say after that?
(as a corollary, people think the main point of hakafos is the songs they sing as they dance around. I really think hakafos as they used to be practice - the hakafos of the siddur are so beautiful and if anything, are only cheapened by an excessive focus on our songs.)
but enough of me spewing nonsense. I wish everyone a successful winter zman, and with the help of G-d, we should all have strength to make it through the long yom tov - less season until pesach.
